I’m a parent. I know what it’s like to shop for two months, have Christmas built up from August to December in the malls, so that on Christmas day paper can fly and the excitement is over in ten minutes…our family joke is that the kids play more with the boxes! How about yours?

I started sending these Santa letters to my kids as a way to build them up for more than just a day-they run to the mailbox to see what Santa has to say-about THEM-and then we remember that all through the Holidays. Our Christmas lasts for weeks instead of just minutes…

They tell their aunts and uncles what their Santa letters said and it’s truly magical what you see in their eyes-they know they are great and that greatness lasts a whole lot longer than the toy-fest that starts Christmas morning at 6am and ends at 6:15 (if you’re lucky). Out from under that mountain of boxes and bows and wrapping paper I see a little person emerge who knows that they are loved, and that’s what does it for me. It’s not the tinsel or the ornaments, the carols or the glowing icicles…I’m no Grinch, all that stuff is very nice. But what does it for me is making my kids happy, loved, and secure with themselves. And from one parent to another, nothing feels better than making your kid’s day.   And so, I continue to send…and now I offer that little gift of love to you.
