I have a neighbor who told her 2 year old daughter that there is no Santa Claus!  Can you believe that!?  Her “reasoning” was that she didn’t want her daughter to grow up and think her mother lied to her, hence, think she lied about other stuff besides Santa Claus as well…

Honestly, I just didn’t get it–I love the magic of watching my kids whisper about what Santa might bring to them this year, and the look on their faces when they open their Santa Letters!  It’s like one of those Mastercard commercials — Holly and a wreath, $35.00…presents under the tree, about a thousand bucks…that look of joy when they think of Santa Claus…priceless.  I guess everyone sees things differently, but I try to preserve that innocence as long as I can in my children–my oldest daughter has her doubts, I can tell, but she hasn’t outright asked and I’m not outright telling, so this year I believe we’ll do the dance around the subject until one of us slips up–until then–I just have to insist–Yes Claire, There Is A Santa Claus
